Swiss Medical Network strengthens regional healthcare - launch of the Aare-Netz in the Central Plateau

Genolier, 21 August 2025 - Swiss Medical Network is further expanding its integrated care strategy. The Aare-Netz will be the third care region to be launched on 1 September 2025, after the Jura Arc (Réseau de l'Arc) and Ticino (Rete Sant'Anna). The aim is to network medical care in the Mittelland region (Zofingen area) in a targeted manner, to organise it in a medically coordinated manner and to consistently focus on the needs of patients.

Shaping care together

The Aare-Netz brings together GPs, specialists, hospitals, rehabilitation and care facilities with the aim of coordinating medical services along a common treatment pathway.

«In the Aare-Netz, we are creating a healthcare network that not only treats patients, but also supports them. Close cooperation between all those involved, from primary care to specialised medicine, is crucial,» says Olivera Ceric, Director of Spital Zofingen.

The Aare-Netz is supported by an interdisciplinary management team. Olivera Ceric, Alessandra Cavalli (Operational Director of Xundheitszentren Mittelland), Beatrice Gass (Director of Privatklinik Villa im Park in Rothrist) and Michael Schorn (Director of VIVA-Aare-Netz) bring many years of experience and local networking to the table. They coordinate cooperation with service providers, establish sustainable structures and develop a common care culture. From 1 January 2016, the Aare-Netz will be offering the alternative insurance product VIVA together with its insurance partner Visana.

Public and private in partnership

With the Kantonsspital Aarau (KSA) as a public partner, Swiss Medical Network is focussing on a new form of cooperation in the development of the Aare-Netz: privately initiated, publicly supplemented. The cooperation between a private and a public hospital is new in this form and emphasises the joint responsibility for sustainable healthcare in the region.

As a partner for highly specialised medicine, the KSA complements the Aare-Netz. This creates an integrated care model that covers all levels of care, from GP practices to specialised treatment - patient-centred across sector boundaries.

«The collaboration with Swiss Medical Network sustainably strengthens medical quality and security of care for the population in the Zofingen area. The choice of the KSA as a reference hospital for specialised medicine underlines our role as a leading centre hospital in the Mittelland region,» says Dr Markus Meier, CEO of the KSA.

The Aare-Netz is being developed step by step, in close cooperation with local doctors, nursing staff, public institutions and the patient groups concerned. The aim is not just a new structure, but a cultural change.

«We would like to thank everyone involved, from the nursing staff to the administration, for their commitment. Without their openness and willingness to work together, this step would not have been possible,» says Dino Cauzza, CEO of Swiss Medical Network.
